The Last Drive
By Jason Sarillana
We've been on this road for hours now.
Or is it weeks or days?
I'm still fresh, I could drive for hours yet.
We got out just in time, I think.
Leading them out was tough.
The rain, the dark.
But nobody panicked,
and we led them out.
We all did great.
But where are they?
The van was full,
now the car is empty.
Doesn't matter I suppose.
The important thing is we got out.
We'll get to our home soon.
It's all because of you.
I made it because
I had you to be strong for.
We shared so much for so long
and we've only just met
and I hardly know you.
How long have we been on the road?
How long has it rained?
Did I fall in love at first sight?
Doesn't matter.
You're with me.
I could drive for hours yet.
I can't wait to show you around.
Home is so nice in the fall.
Everybody will like you I'm sure.
There's somebody waiting for me.
She's so beautiful.
I'll be in her arms soon.
For the first time,
we two together.
Just like always.
It'll be warm and dry.
And after everything else,
I can kiss you for the first time.
